Just head for anywhere that has a rainbow flag hanging from it. That's the international sign for an away pub.

The Fiddler's Elbow; went to this game last year. Down near the sea front, left off the main road from the station.
Lots of decent beer and plenty of character inside. They had the rugby on when I was there, so assumed no arse bandits.

Get yourself in Rottingdean , start at the Coach House , white horse, the Vic and finish at the Plough . I've missed one out ,can't remember the name . You may be happy to stay at the coach house , nice pub,decent folk.

Brighton's probably got more good pubs per person than any other place.
Lion and Lobster is one of the best there
